The Red region is actually known worldwide as the location of a leatherback turtle landing. However, like most other animal species, this species is threatened with extinction and its presence is rarely seen.

For this reason, the Red Regional Turtle Sanctuary was established to protect this species and many other species such as hawksbill and green back.
